CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON YOUTH LEAGUE U/16 - Sunday 14 Oct 200

Ten-man Littleton put up a brave fight in their under 16 County Cup game this Sunday. Camberley came at the man down Littleton hard with a combination of quick passing and cool finishing seeing them 2-0 up after just 10 minutes. However, not to be downhearted, Littleton dug in, in a desperate attempt to save the game. Moments before the half time though, a weak back pass was capitalised on by the keen Camberley striker and made the score 3-0 at half time. The second half brought the best out of debutant goalkeeper Ed Cox who made some outstanding saves keeping Littleton fighting throughout the second half. Littleton’s impressive defence display was only undone once in the 57th minute, to make the final score 4-0.

The cup also saw some impressive victories for both AFC Totton ‘A’ Team and the ‘B’ Team. The ‘A’ team, who are enjoying a perfect season so far, added to their early season success by beating Bournemouth Electric 15-0 in a very impressive display. The result should give them a huge boost ahead of a crucial match against league leaders Eastleigh Spitfires next week,  who themselves lost 3-2 in a close affair away to Moneyfields Youth F.C. AFC Totton ’B’ team also experiencing a 100% season so far,  enjoyed the biggest win in the cup this week. Division 4 Cherbourg Youth where unable to hold back the Totton attack as they won 24-0 in a fantastic performance.

Other very impressive cup results were put in by Eastleigh Youth FC, who rose above the challenge of Purbrook Youth F.C. to win 13-0 and advance to the 3rd round of the cup. Fellow Division 1 side Winchester Youth FC also put their name in the hat for the next round as they overcame division 2 side Colden Common Youth 11-0.

Division 1 only had one fixture due to the cup fixtures. Broadway Youth have put themselves in within 4 points of the league leaders with a 2-1 win away to Salisbury City Youth. In Division 2, S&D Youth took advantage of their extra fixture at the weekend winning 3-0 at home to Hamble ASSC Youth. The result has seen S&D rise up to third in the league and breathing down the necks of the teams above them. Also in Division 2 AFC Stoneham ’B’  added themselves to the mid pack battle by adding 3 points to their total beating fellow mid table side Alresford town 2-1 in a close fought match.

Calmore Youth were the livelier and more inventive throughout this Division 3 local derby, Dan Flower opening the scoring for them with a delightful turn and shot from 20 yards after 20 minutes. Rangers never really threatened but they unexpectedly levelled through Adam Cooper's neatly dispatched 37th minute penalty. The equaliser briefly gave Rangers some hope, but Simon Merrington and Jack Tomlin's second-half goals punished uncertain defending and Calmore Youth finished deserved 3-1 winners. Wyvern capitalised on not playing in the cup by going top of Division 4. A 12-0 win over Phoenix Rangers has seen them rise to the top of the pack on goal difference above Burridge and East Cowes who are also on 9 points from 3 games.
